1. Overview

Medical and Emergency Assistance Factor

We assess the coverage provided for medical expenses, including overseas and follow-up medical expenses, as well as emergency assistance support such as evacuation, repatriation, compassionate visit, and the return of unattended children.

Personal Accident Factor

We consider the actual benefits offered for accidents, taking into account different levels of severity, including accidental benefits and burns benefits.

Personal Property Factor

We analyze the coverage provided for personal belongings, loss of cash or travel documents, fraudulent use of credit cards, and rental vehicle excess.

Trip Inconvenience Factor

We evaluate the coverage for baggage and travel delays, as well as the terms and conditions for trip cancellation and trip curtailment.

3. Assumptions

Our scoring model takes into account the varying travel insurance coverage based on age group and trip destination. To determine the importance of each factor, we assume an adult traveling to any place in the world and assess their general protection needs accordingly.

4. Medical and Emergency Assistance Score Details

The medical and emergency assistance score comprises two sub-scores: the Medical Score and the Emergency Assistance Score.

The Medical Score is calculated based on:

  • Coverage for medical expenses incurred overseas
  • Hospital cash benefits coverage and terms while abroad
  • Coverage for follow-up medical expenses
  • Coverage for visits to Chinese medical practitioners, chiropractors, and physiotherapists

 

The Emergency Assistance Score is calculated based on:

  • Coverage for emergency evacuation
  • Repatriation coverage
  • Coverage and terms for compassionate visits
  • Coverage and terms for the return of unattended child(ren)

5. Personal Accident Score Details

The personal accident score is calculated based on:

  • Benefits provided for 15 severe accidents
  • Benefits provided for 20 less severe accidents
  • Coverage for burns based on the percentage of body surface affected

6. Personal Property Score Details

The Personal Property Score is calculated based on:

  • Coverage for personal effects, including sub-limits for sports equipment, mobile phones, laptop computers, cameras, and digital recorders
  • Coverage for loss of personal cash
  • Coverage for loss of travel documents
  • Protection against fraudulent use of credit cards
  • Coverage for rental vehicle excess

7. Trip Inconvenience Score Details

Trip Inconvenience Score comprises two sub-scores: the Delay Score, and the Trip Cancellation and Curtailment Score

Delay Score is calculated based on:

  • Coverage and terms for baggage delay
  • Cash benefits for trip delays
  • Coverage and terms for additional transportation and accommodation during trip delays

 

Trip Cancellation and Curtailment Score is calculated based on:

  • Coverage limits and covered causes/perils for trip cancellation
  • Coverage limits and covered causes/perils for trip curtailment
